Shelly's Patch

Patchwork quilts and other bits and pieces

Baskets Away

Here are the baskets I’ve made recently but I’m moving on from them.

Five small baskets made in fabric

Fabric Baskets

I have a need to cut some fabric and sew some seams.

I did finish another quilt yesterday. I’ll take photos and post them later.

Not sure that I’m happy with it but it’s a commission so I hope the buyer (Lindy) likes it.

Today I’m starting my picnic quilt.

I keep changing my mind about the design (I always do) but after humming and harring I’ve settled for a disappearing nine patch.

Cutting board ready, tick; ruler ready, tick; rotary cutter ready. tick; sewing machine ready, tick.

All systems are go!

Baskets

Yesterday I layered a quilt, finished three baskets, vacuumed the floor and received an order of threads and fabric.

The mug rugs didn’t get done so the world is safe!

Fabric baskets and bags are currently the quick,”go to” items for birthday presents.

Here’s one of the latest offerings.

I can see them being useful for a variety of things.

I’m using one to keep my spools of thread together but they could also be used to keep other things tidy and organised.

Why not keep all your hair ties and accessories in one place.

Or one for the baby’s room for smaller objects.

Having one in the lounge for all of the remote controls means you’ll always know where the remote is.

Or what about all those cords for your iPod, laptop,eBook and phone.

The uses could be endless.

Birthday Surprise

Why do birthdays always come as a surprise?

It’s not like they change date every year.

As I live on the other side of the world to most of my family I need to post presents in plenty of time for the the present to get to the person celebrating their birthday.

Well that’s the theory but I seem to always leave it to the last minute.

Then it’s a mad scramble to get a card, wrap a present (if I’m sending one) then get to the Post Office.

Every year I resolve to do better but it never happens.

So I had yesterday planned then realised that a it was only a week before a special someone, back in New Zealand, was having a birthday.

What to send?

Oh I know. A child sized bag.

This is the result.

The bag was to have a button but I couldn’t find one (I really need to tidy my flat) but I did find a necklace I could use.

I like how it turned out.

So it may be a day or so late but it’s the thought that counts, right? And, better late than never!

Now to get something organised for the next birthday that’s a few days later.

But for now I just need to get this present in the post.
